Eastern Kentucky University Rankings and Accreditations

A Top Ranked Higher Education
Eastern Kentucky University is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS*). This regional accrediting body is recognized by both the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA**) and the United States Department of Education (USDE).

Regional accreditation is a measurement the U.S. Department of Education uses to ensure that schools meet rigorous and up-to-date standards of education and professionalism. All schools must be accredited, and their curriculum must pass approval with a USDE-approved accreditation board. Because of more defined regional accreditation educational standards, credits for similar courses will usually transfer between schools.

Eastern Kentucky University puts education first, which is why Forbes magazine (www.forbes.com) has ranked EKU among “America’s Best Colleges.”

EKU is listed by Forbes magazine as being in the top 10 percent of America’s colleges and universities for the second year in a row.

EKU is included again in U.S. News and World Report’s annual listing of top colleges and universities as a Tier I institution.

EKU was also designated as one of America’s most Veteran-Friendly campuses by GI Jobs magazine.

EKU’s Fire and Safety Engineering Technology bachelor’s degree program is accredited by IFSAC, the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress.

EKU is among only 175 of America’s 5,000 colleges and universities to be recognized for community engagement – both curricular and in practice – by the Carnegie Foundation.
