Undergraduate Admissions Requirements

Getting Enrolled in an EKU Undergraduate Program

Applying for admission into any of Eastern Kentucky University’s online undergraduate degree programs begins by meeting the requirements and submitting an application form. Once your application is reviewed, the enrollment process can take place. Applications for the program are accepted year-round. Applicants will be reviewed for admission based upon the criteria listed below. Call an Enrollment Advisor at 1-866-277-9878 to learn about the options available to you.

Our online undergraduate programs feature five 8-week terms a year. This flexible schedule gives you the opportunity to earn your bachelor’s degree at your convenience.

To be eligible for admission to either program, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

Full Admissions:

To be granted full admission you must have:

  • Graduated from an accredited high school and earned a minimum cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • OR received a General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)
  • OR completed an EKU-approved home-school or distance learning high school program

AND

  • Submitted a minimum ACT composite score of 18 (with sub-scores meeting or exceeding 18 in English, 19 in Mathematics and 18 in Reading); or an SAT 870 for critical reading + mathematics with SAT critical reading 470.
  • Met the Kentucky Pre-College Curriculum.
  • Submitted official copy of final high school transcript or GED exam results.

OR Have 24 hours of transfer credits from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and equivalents to an EKU 100-level English and math course*.

Admissions with Conditions:

To be admitted with conditions you must have:

  • Graduated from an accredited high school, and earned a minimum cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • OR received a General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)
  • OR completed an EKU-approved home school program

AND

  • Submitted an official copy of your final high school transcript or GED exam results.

Students admitted with conditions:

1. Have not met the requirements of the Kentucky Precollege Curriculum

2. OR have submitted ACT scores with sub-scores less than 18 in English, 19 in mathematics, or 18 in reading); or have an SAT combination verbal/critical reading and mathematics score less than 870.

3. OR have submitted an ACT composite score of 17 or SAT writing 430, SAT mathematics 460, and SAT critical reading 470.

* If less than 24 hours of transfer credits from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.0 must have SAT or ACT scores and high school transcript. Test scores are required if 24 hours of transfer credit do not include equivalents to an EKU 100-level English and math course.

Application Instructions

  • Order your official transcripts. We need official transcripts sent directly from every regionally accredited college that you have previously attended to our off-site admissions address.
  • If applicable you’ll need to send in final high school transcripts with graduation date posted and SAT or ACT test scores. Note: High school transcripts and SAT/ACT can be copies of your officials sent as an attachment, faxed or mailed.
  • Send in the undergraduate application and $30 non-refundable application fee

International Applicants must complete the following requirements:

  • Complete the TOEFL Exam with minimum scores of 500 (paper based), 173 (computer based), and 61 (Internet based)
  • Provide official secondary school records
  • Complete the Declaration and Certification of Finances Form ($27,500 min. must be guaranteed per enrollment year)
  • Letter from bank to support the Declaration and Certification of Finances

Undergraduate Tuition and Fees*

Tuition

Tuition for the online undergraduate program is $409/credit hour. The total cost of the online bachelor’s degree program varies based on the number of transfer credits a student applies to the program. The program curriculum consists of 120 credit hours total, but students dependent on their previous coursework may transfer up to 88 credit hours. Overall tuition will vary based on the number of credit hours awarded to each student with a range of $12,800 to $48,000.

Additional Fees

Additional fees include a $40 application fee, a $50 graduation fee and a $35 technology fee.

Textbook Fees

Students are responsible for the fees associated with textbooks. The cost of textbooks average from $150-$200 per term. The overall cost of textbooks will vary based on the number of total courses a student enrolls in.

Graduate Admissions Requirements

Getting Enrolled in an EKU Graduate Program

Applying for admission into Eastern Kentucky University’s online Safety, Security and Emergency Management Master of Science Degree program begins by meeting the requirements and submitting an application form. Once your application is reviewed, the enrollment process can take place. Applications for the program are accepted six times annually. Applicants will be reviewed for admission based upon the criteria listed below. Call an Enrollment Advisor at 1-877-398-3048 to learn about the options available to you.

If accepted as a graduate student in the Master of Science in Safety, Security and Emergency Management online degree program, you can be confident that you will be receiving an exceptional education from a recognized leader in these fields.

To be eligible for admission, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Complete the Graduate School online application and pay $35 application fee
  • Submit official transcripts from the university that granted your baccalaureate degree
  • No GRE for applicants with a 2.5 undergraduate GPA or higher.
  • If you hold a master’s degree from a regionally accredited school the GRE may be waived

International applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Complete Graduate School application and pay $35 application fee
  • Submit official transcripts from all previous schools attended.
  • International transcripts to be evaluated by WES.
  • GRE scores of 149 verbal, and 141 quantitative, and analytical writing score of at least 3.0Graduate exam waived with a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • TOEFL score of 550
  • IELTS minimum score of 5 in each area, overall score minimum of 6

Provisional Admission

Provisional admission may be granted upon the recommendation of the Safety, Security and Emergency Management Department when an applicant is unable to supply all of the necessary application materials (e.g. official GRE) prior to admission consideration, but otherwise meets the admission requirements. Complete and satisfactory application materials are required before the end of the semester in which the student has registered.

Probationary Admission

Probationary admission may be granted upon the recommendation of the Safety, Security and Emergency Management Department to an applicant who does not meet certain requirements for clear admission, but does show promise for successful graduate study. For example, probationary admission may be granted to a student with GPA and GRE scores below the minimum requirement. After obtaining probationary admission, the minimum condition to transfer to clear admission status is the successful completion of approved graduate coursework at EKU with a graduate GPA of at least 3.0 and with no more than one grade of ‘C’ or lower.

Graduate Certificate Admissions Requirements

Eastern Kentucky University’s online graduate certificate programs are designed to give you a graduate-level education in a condensed certificate package.

To be eligible for admission into the Safety, Security and Emergency Management post-baccalaureate certificate program, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Complete the graduate school application and pay $35 application fee
  • Submit official transcripts from the university that granted your baccalaureate degree
  • Achieved an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5 overall to be granted a clear admittance
  • TOEFL score of 550 for international students

Graduate Tuition and Fees*

Tuition

Tuition for the online graduate program is $611/credit hour. The total cost of the online master’s degree program consisting of 36 credit hours is $21,600. The online graduate certificate consists of 12 credit hours, with a total tuition of $7,200.

Additional Fees

Additional fees include a $35 application fee and a graduation fee of $55.
