New Safety Internships Targeted for Eastern Kentucky University Students

Dr. David Stumbo, Assistant Professor with the College of Justice, Safety & Military Science, met with members of Buffalo Trace Distillery’s s Health and Safety team to discuss safety internships that the company hopes to fill with EKU safety students. Mr. Jake Degler, Safety Coordinator is an EKU alumni who completed a safety internship at the facility before getting hired on full time.

Buffalo Trace Distillery, located in Frankfort, KY, is undergoing a major expansion as part of the “Bourbon Boom,” including the construction of new buildings and new production operations. Buffalo Trace Distillery is the premier bourbon distillery owned by the Sazerac Company. Safety internship opportunities are also planned at other Sazerac facilities such as Glenmore Distillery in Owensboro, KY.
